Background

Patients receiving health and social care are at risk of developing infection as a result of their compromised state of health, underlying medical conditions or as a result of contact with health care interventions such as surgery, diagnostic testing or invasive devices. People who receive and provide care can transmit organisms between them and health care setting provides conducive conditions for micro organisms to grow.

Health care workers have a professional and ethical responsibility to ensure our knowledge and skills are upto date and we practice safely and competently at all times. Thus, this program is designed to provide a comprehensive training for health care workers which will enhance them to provide and take responsibility over hospital infection control services.

OBJECTIVES:

• To provide systematic training to the health care workers in sciences relevant to infection control
• To enable the health care workers to be aware of the standard practices of infection control and thereby support the employing organization to meet and improve the expected standards
• To facilitate key health care workers to take lead in the employed organization to formulate systematic hospital infection control program

KEY MESSAGE:
The participant will be updated with latest standards, guidelines and best practices of infection control
METHODOLOGY:

The program is conducted as distance learning with a compulsory 3 days contact classes and includes a systematic evaluation process at end of 6 months. Duration of the program is 6 months. The participants who fail to take up entire contact classes and evaluation process will not be certified.

The learning and teaching methodologies applied in this program are preparatory content, contact classes which includes lecture, discussions & case scenarios and field visits.

The students will be provided with contents during commencement of the program. Preparatory content includes,

• Text of the subject content
• Case studies, live examples
• CD with Standard guidelines
• Video

Visit to health care areas (eg CSSD, OR etc)

EVALUATION TECHNIQUES:
• Pre reading summary
• Written assignment
• Project work
• Written exam
• Log book presentation
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• Medical doctors
• Hospital administrators with medical or para medical background
• Microbiologist
• Infection Control Nurse, Nurse Administrators
FEE DETAILS:
Rs 25,000/- (Inclusive of taxes)
The payment can be made by DD to be drawn in favour of “Medical Research Foundation” payable at Chennai. Prior registration is necessary. The fee once paid will not be refunded; change in nomination from the same organization will be permitted.
