Introduction |
Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is the qualifying body for dispensing opticians globally. It was established in the UK in 1986, to promote better education, train dispensing opticians and improve the practice of dispensing optics. There is a lack of professionally qualified optical dispensers worldwide. That is why The Sankara Nethralaya Academy had designed this course to give the candidate an internationally standardized qualification right here in India and collaboration with ABDO to give you an International Fellowship of British Dispensing Optician (FBDO). This blended learning course will open up career options in India’s blooming optical dispensing market and in the international market as well.

To provide scientific dispensing skills to the budding Optometrist and Opticians. |
To enable them to professionally manage an Optical outlet independently. |
To increase employability as an entrepreneur or as employed professional in the Optical retail industry. |

Optometry graduates with 3 or 4 year degree
3rd or 4th year of optometry students (Pursing graduation)

The course fee is inclusive of Registration fee, Examination fee, student ABDO membership fee for one year and study material fee.

Course Methodology: |
|
Blended learning program.
Training will be provided by TSNA, Examination and certification will be provided by ABDO.
|
|
Program Highlights: |
|
• The Diploma from ABDO is recognized worldwide and valued across all common wealth countries.
• Assignments and course materials will be provided online and completed through self-study mode.
• Course includes 2 Block release program or contact classes (twice a year) in which faculty from ABDO, UK would be teaching practical to the students for a week (virtual/offline).
• FBDO completed candidates are eligible to apply for GOC (General Optical Council) which is mandatory for practicing as Optician in the UK.
• Increased employment opportunities in optical industry.
• Opens up several dimension for employment including clinical, optical, academics, research and retail industry.

• Advanced theory of ophthalmic dispensing & theory of ophthalmic lenses.
• Ophthalmic dispensing practice.
• Practice sessions in dispensing lab.
• Complicated prescription analysis and incorporating prisms.
• Trouble shooting and problem solving in dispensing in real - life situations. |

Learning Outcomes: |
|
On completion of the course a student will be able to:
• Scientifically dispense spectacles with accuracy and precision.
• Independently handle optical store for managing in front and back office.
• Work as a quality manager in lens manufacturing and retail industry.

On completion, the candidate will be given a certificate of Fellowship in British Dispensing Opticians FBDO O/S (Overseas)
