Professor Adinarayana Kalanidhi took his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters Degree in Heat Power Engineering, and a Doctorate in Heat Transfer from the University of Madras. He has done his post-dotoral research at Southampton Univesity, United Kingdom. He played a key role as the Director of Continuing Education Programme of AICTE-CEP (a Government of India Project) at Bangalore. He developed the credit system of the short-term courses being offered for the working professional in the year 1995, which the Planning Commission also recognized and incorporated in its IT task force recommendations. Government of India appointed him as Advisor at the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. As Advisor, he was responsible for providing necessary inputs for various policy-making decisions to maintain quality Standards in technical education on par with developed countries. As Member Secretary, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of AICTE, he was instrumental in evolving effective mechanism of Accreditation in technical institution in the country. Presently, he is the Advisor of the Punjab Technical University. He is responsible for restructuring the regular engineering education for the entire University and Restructuring the distance Education. In the distance education, he has made land mark recommendations involving IT for administering and offering professional education. Introducing new courses and make the whole program IT enabled and student friendly in order to involve more people towards HRD activities He was the Vice Chancellor of the largest technological university i.e., Anna University, having 216 engineering colleges affiliated to it. With his dynamic qualities, as an academician and administrator he had the enviable task of implementing – Web-based Post-graduate Engineering Education, Credit Bank System, Dual Degree Programme for Non-IT engineering graduates, Teaching Research Associate Scheme to generate more Ph.D. scholars/teachers for technical institutions. Under his able leadership the University has reached greater heights through its achievements in receiving – Island of Excellence award for UGC for “Centre of Potential in Environmental Sciences.” Launching of ‘Online Filling of Application and Online Issue of Hall-ticket’ for Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations is the first of its kind. Development of Micro Satellite project from ISRO – the ‘first university’ to bag such credit for its proven research capabilities. He played a key role to introduce unique and cost effective IT education in schools in the Tamil Nadu state for the benefit of students in rural areas. He was instrumental in making collaboration with many national and international institutions / organizations in German, Japan, USA, Australia, Singapore, Russia, etc and also brought in new concepts in research and technology management to establish a global R&D platform by offering its technologies and services across the country and globe. With liberal funding from various industrial houses he has established 10 Professional Chairs at Anna University to accelerate research. Professor Kalanidhi has also established new and unique canters of excellence such as Technology Gateway, Centre for Academic Partnership, Centre for Professional Development Education, etc, which is a path breaking effort to establish a performance driven, accountable and a culture of innovation and creativity. Professor Kalanidhi also served in various capacities such as Member, Unesco International Centre for Engineering Education(UICEE), Australia; Director on the Board of Directors, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency; Resource Person in High Powered Committee on Disaster Management of the Government of India; Chairman, Southern Languages book trust; Member, Council for State IT Task Force; Executive Member in Accreditation Council of University Grants Commission, Delhi, Executive Member at the All India Council for Technical Education. Professor Kalanidhi has received numerous honours and awards including Ugadi Puraskar for glorious achievements as an ‘Eminent IT Educationist’; “Unesco International Centre for engineering Education Silver Badge of Honour” award for his outstanding achievements in the globalization of Engineering Education. He has been awarded “Vice-Chancellor of the New Millennium” for his excellence in the field of modern technology in the hi-tech era by His Excellency Ross Ferraro, Mayor, Carol Stream City, State of Illinois of United States of America. Professor Kalanidhi’s special achievement is a book on “Engineering Innovations in Pranayama” and for this innovative work he received D.Sc Degree. Areas of interest include cryogenics, Renewable Resources of Energy, Technical Education. He has authored more than 75 classified technical papers and 5 books. He has developed an effective model for issue of National Citizen Smart Card through on-line mechanism. He has also advised the Government for web enabled monitoring mechanism to enable each citizen to receive a single card only. Recently the Commonwealth Science and Technology Academy for Research (C-STAR) was inaugurated by His Excellancy Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India in the presence of several stalwarts from the academic field. Dr. Kalam, congratulated Prof.Kalanidhi, for creating this new venture on the mission of research and said the C-STAR Academy shall provide a virtual platform for collaboration among institutions of higher education. Excellence should be infused into engineering colleges in the country and senior researchers should serve as role models for the younger generation. Prof. A.Kalanidhi, has been appointed as Vice President of the International Academy Advisory Committee, (World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education, Australia). He was responsible for creating a mechanism to monitor the progress of research. Thus ‘World Accreditation Council for Research’ was formed at Thailand by signing an accord with Ten countries. It is a significant Accord signed on February 23rd 2010 at Thailand. Dr.A.Kalanidhi has been appointed as the convenor for the “World accreditation Council for Research”. It is a victory for all the academicians from India that the idea generated from India has culminated into “World Accreditation Council for Research”. It is an important milestone for the C-STAR, for the academics and for the research and research institutions. |
